Katzenstein: Caldwell's stubbornness a slap in face to fans

I wish fans knew the Jim Caldwell I've had an opportunity to chat with a few times away from the cameras and recorders. He's a charming, smart man who's clearly capable of grabbing people's attention.

Unfortunately, those traits don't always transfer to the football field where, as a head coach, he's looked overmatched, particularly this season where the Lions were slow to adjust to losing their best player — Ndamukong Suh — and team identity — from Suh and center Dominic Raiola — in the offseason.

Instead, the most consistent trait the public has seen from Caldwell in his two seasons coaching the Lions is his stubbornness.
