Controversy has swirled in recent months around the role of satellite camps in college football, with many fighting to protect a coach’s ability to barnstorm the country so prospects get the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of college football’s best.
But there’s another brand of summer youth camps that many view as having a purer purpose, especially camps aimed less at helping prospects making connections and more at helping young players improve.
“My idea is to get kids excited about football,” Wayne State coach Paul Winters said Saturday as he helped former Warriors and Lions running back Joique Bell conduct his first youth camp in Detroit.
