ALLEN PARK -- Coach Jim Caldwell has taken a stand against DeAndre Levy, insisting the Detroit Lions followed protocol when they cut the linebacker.
Team doctors passed Levy on a physical earlier this offseason, which meant Detroit could cut the linebacker without paying the $1.75 million of hiscontract that was guaranteed for injury.
But Levy told ESPN that three independent doctors have since told him the knee isn't healthy, and that he won't be ready to play until November or December. He's filed a grievance to try to recoup the $1.75 million.
"We followed everything by the rules," Caldwell countered.
