ALLEN PARK -- James Ihedigbo has been the Detroit Lions' starting strong safety since signing with the club in 2014.
With the exception of a second-half benching in Green Bay last year, he's been out there if he was healthy.
But on Sunday, he sat.
Detroit opted to play Isa Abdul-Quddus alongside free safety Glover Quin in the 18-16 win against the Packers. Ihedigbo played just three defensive snaps.
Coach Jim Caldwell refused to call the demotion a benching, though, and insisted the move was nothing more than package-related. He said Ihedigbo's role could expand in future games.
