Since drafting Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions have given him every opportunity to become the next great runner in franchise history.
After posting a solid rookie year, in which he recorded 597 rushing yards and two touchdowns as a nine-game starter, Abdullah’s promising sophomore campaign was cut tragically short due to a season-ending foot injury he suffered in Week Two.
The following season, Detroit opted to place the onus of their running game hopes on Abdullah’s shoulders despite the fact he was coming back from a dreaded Lisfranc injury.
