Inside Matthew Stafford's evolution: From Lions gunslinger to grownup

The old tape is fun to go back and watch sometimes.

Not that Matthew Stafford does it often, but occasionally he’ll pull up a game from one of his first few NFL seasons to study a coach or defensive coordinator, or revisit a play he cataloged somewhere in the back of his encyclopedic brain.

Stafford was a colt back then, wild and untamed but dripping with all the tools teams dream about at the top of the draft.

“I was a young arm, man,” he said in an interview with the Free Press last month. “I could throw the hell out of it.
