DETROIT -- In many ways, it's been a season to forget for Joique Bell. But when the Detroit Lions needed some tough yards to close out a tight game against the Oakland Raiders, they turned to the veteran back.
And Bell delivered.
With 2:53 remaining in the contest, the Lions faced a third-and-3 just inside the red zone. Settling for a field goal wouldn't have been disastrous, but three points would have left it a one-score game.
Instead of passing, risking an incompletion and a stopped clock with Oakland out of timeouts, quarterback Matthew Stafford handed off to Bell who ran left, plowed through a tackle attempt by safety Nate Allen and picked up the first down.
