The state is preparing for an expansion of vaccine eligibility by April 5, when all Michiganders over the age of 16 will be qualified to receive shots.
As part of these efforts, Ford Field has been tapped to operate as a federally run mass vaccine clinic run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in conjunction with the state, Meijer, Henry Ford Health System, and the Detroit Lions, as well as the city of Detroit and Wayne County. Beginning March 24, the site will be equipped to put 5,000 shots in arms per day, with an additional 1,000 doses used for a mobile vaccine clinic.
