The season opener provided all the drama of the Detroit Lions’ first matchup with the Los Angeles back in January, and luckily for the Lions, it was the same result.
It’s true, the Lions escaped from Ford Field in Week 1 with a victory nearly snatched away by Matthew Stafford in yet another eerily reminiscent performance from when he was under center in Detroit. Teams ravaged by injury, a stifled running game, and a defense that folds when they just need one more stop: those were all too familiar scenes during Stafford’s time in Detroit. It’d require a Herculean comeback of throw after throw hitting their mark for the Lions to keep themselves in football games, so it was never a surprise he’s had the kind of success he has with the Rams—especially with those formidable defenses, we all saw him in 2014.
