If you wanted to find Golden Tate when he was young, all you had to do was look outside.
Whether he was playing hockey in the street with old lumber his parents had bought from Home Depot, basketball in the neighbor’s driveway, or imaginary football with no ball but plenty of tackling on his front lawn, Tate was always outside somewhere playing sports.
And as he takes center stage this Friday as guest speaker at the inaugural Detroit Free Press Sports Awards show, Tate said that’s one piece of advice he has for young athletes everywhere.
