Former Lions RB Jahvid Best to run in Rio Olympics

Former Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best has secured himself a trip to Rio de Janeiro.

After clearing up paperwork, the 27-year-old Best has been approved to compete for the Caribbean island St. Lucia in track and field in this summer's Olympic Games in Brazil. Best, whose father is Saint Lucian, will become the first person with NFL experience to compete in a Summer Olympics.

“God is good! It's hard to describe how I feel right now," Best said in a statement to NBC Olympics.

The Lions traded up to draft the speedy Best out of California with the 30th pick in the 2010 NFL draft.
