With the 17th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions sought out to fix what would end up being one of many issues on a roster that was would soon become the only 0-16 team in NFL history. They drafted a Boston College offensive tackle named Gosder Cherilus.
He lasted five unspectacular seasons, then moved on to Indianapolis, then to Tampa Bay. On Thursday, Cherilus announced his retirement after a nine-year career that featured 116 starts in 131 games.
"I am forever grateful to the teams, my teammates, the medical staffs and the fans," he said on Twitter.
