Detroit Pistons power forward Ersan Ilyasova scored 17 points for Turkey in an 89-87 win over Italy in Berlin, Germany on the opening day of the 2015 EuroBasket tournament today.
Ilyasova, acquired on June 11 from the Milwaukee Bucks for forwards Caron Butler and Shawne Williams, was on fire early as he poured in nine points on 4 of 4 shooting in the first quarter. But he was forced to sit with foul trouble and finished 5-for-7 from the field, including 2-for-2 from three-point range. He added two rebounds, an assist and a steal in 21 minutes.
Former Piston Luigi Datome scored seven points in 22 minutes for Italy.
