A few days into free agency, Stefan Charles looked like he might be the Detroit Lions’ biggest off-season addition on the defensive line.
Now, as the team gets ready to set its initial 53-man roster, Charles is in limbo after playing as a third-team defensive tackle all preseason.
The Lions have until 4 p.m. Saturday to make their final round of roster cuts, and Charles presents an interesting dilemma. He got $1.75 million as a nontendered restricted free agent in March -- $750,000 of that already has been paid out in the form of signing and workout bonuses -- but isn’t guaranteed a spot at the Lions’ deepest position.
