Don't expect to see much of Matthew Stafford in Lions' preseason opener

NAPA, Calif. -- The Detroit Lions aren't saying whether Matthew Stafford will play Friday night in the exhibition opener against Oakland.

"I'm just trying to get through today's practice right here and make sure I get everybody going in the right direction," coach Matt Patricia said before wrapping up joint practices with the Raiders on Wednesday. "So, we'll find out on Friday."

But even if Stafford plays, it won't be much.

He played just one series in the exhibition opener last year, completing 2 of 3 passes for 36 yards in a win against Indianapolis. The other pass was intercepted, though it also hit Marvin Jones in both hands.
