When someone wonders whether new Detroit Lions wide receiver Quintez Cephus has the speed to make it in the NFL, his former position coach, Ted Gilmore, likes to tell the story of the 2014 NFL draft.
Gilmore was the Oakland Raiders' wide receivers coach at the time, tasked with evaluating one of the best receiver classes in draft history.
Sammy Watkins, Mike Evans and Odell Beckham dominated the conversation, but Gilmore was especially fond of another player who was drawing mixed reviews because of the slow 40-yard dash he ran at the NFL combine: Jarvis Landry.
