Detroit Lions: Unexpected running back shines in preseason opener

Never underestimate the power of possibly losing your job. It can make one of the worst running backs in the NFL last season suddenly play like a second-round selection.

At least, that appeared to be the case for Detroit Lions running back Ameer Abdullah Friday night in the team’s first preseason game of 2018.

Against the Raiders, Abdullah appeared to be every bit the playmaker that posted 4,438 rushing yards and 36 touchdowns during his final three seasons in Nebraska.

The fourth-year back rushed for the Lions only touchdown of the night in Oakland.
