The Detroit Lions waived former Eastern Michigan defensive end Patrick O'Connor as part of their cut to a 53-man roster today.
O'Connor, the Lions' seventh-round pick this year, was competing for the fourth and fifth defensive end spots with undrafted rookies Alex Barrett and Jeremiah Valoaga.
Barrett and Valoaga had played ahead of O'Connor consistently throughout training camp, and all three had up and down moments in Thursday's exhibition finale against the Buffalo Bills.
O'Connor was called for two penalties in that game, including a questionable unnecessary roughness penalty. He finished the preseason with one sack.
