On Sunday afternoon, the Detroit Lions announced the corresponding move in response to claiming running back J.D. McKissic, and it’s a bit of a shocker. The team has waived tight end Logan Thomas, leaving just two tight ends on the active 53-man roster.
Thomas appeared to be a shoo-in for a roster spot all offseason, as he was repping early with the first or second-team offense. He is a veteran, so he’s not subject to waivers and can sign anywhere he pleases. That also potentially means he may re-sign with the Lions after they make one more roster maneuver—for example, moving Austin Bryant to injured reserve.
