The Detroit Lions announced on Monday evening that they have released linebacker Trevor Bates.
Back in January, Bates was arrested after failing to pay a cab fee in New York. While being booked, he reportedly punched a police officer, leading to his hospitalization. He has since pleaded not guilty to four charges: assault, resisting arrest, theft of services and obstruction of governmental administration.
At the time of the arrest, the Lions held off judgement, releasing the following statement.
We are aware of the arrest of Trevor Bates earlier today in New York.
