Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson going on IR after ‘procedure’ on knee

On Tuesday afternoon, Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia announced that Kerryon Johnson underwent a procedure on Tuesday morning and will be placed on injured reserve.

Johnson injured his right knee during the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. Though it didn’t look too serious at the time—he tried to work through it on the exercise bike—he did not return to the game, and obviously the injury was serious enough to require a medical procedure.

Patricia said the hope is that Johnson can return to play at some point this season, but by placing him on injured reserve, he is now ineligible to practice for six weeks and cannot return for a game for another eight weeks.
