Kasey Redfern never considered putting his accounting degree to use.
Not when he sat unsigned for nearly six weeks after the 2014 NFL draft. Not when he spent that fall out of football. Not when he bounced between three teams last preseason and didn't stick with any. And not when he got married six months ago, long before the Lions called and offered him the chance to be what everyone assumed was a camp leg.
Redfern might have been just that, the last player on the Lions' 90-man roster brought in to take the wear and tear off veterans Sam Martin and Matt Prater had Martin not suffered an ankle injury this summer that landed him on the non-football injury list.
