Darren Fells doesn't think he has CTE.
He doesn't have any of the cognitive issues that are often associated with the degenerative brain disease, and he's played far less football – he played basketball in college and professionally overseas – than many of his peers.
But if researchers at Boston University have indeed discovered a way to identify chronic traumatic encephalopathy in people while they're still alive, the Detroit Lions tight end said he would undergo whatever medical screening becomes available "just to make sure."
"The fact that it’s prevalent and this is the main sport this shows up in, I definitely wouldn’t want to put my family in that kind of jeopardy," Fells said.
