Tavon Wilson was 12 years old when his mother slipped on a diving board, cracked her skull and drowned in a swimming pool.

He moved in with his grandmother, Darlene Williams, in the sixth grade, and his aunt, Regina Williams, helped raise him.

"She really stepped in and kind of took that mom role and always kind of been in that mom/big sister kind of role," Wilson said.
