Detroit Lions' NFL draft strategy is clear: Go dependable or go home

Some general managers like to roll the dice on upside. Others can’t resist the allure of positions of skill (ahem, Matt Millen).

But as he prepares for his third draft as Detroit Lions GM, it’s clear that Bob Quinn has safer tendencies in the first round, ones that are perhaps more conducive to long-term success.

In 2016, Quinn took Taylor Decker with the 16th overall pick, a left tackle from a major-college program (Ohio State) who filled a position of need at a time the Lions were rebuilding their offensive line.
