DETROIT -- Matthew Stafford hopped for a second. Then the Detroit Lions quarterback tried to walk it off. Just like with the ribs he injured the last time his team played inside Ford Field, Stafford finished the drive.
Then he came out of the game. He went to the locker room and would not play again. Sunday’s injury, coming on the first drive of a Tampa Bay 47-7 crushing of the Lions, would officially be ruled an ankle injury. Trainers looked at it. He got up and hopped on his left leg about 30 yards to the locker room.
