PHOENIX — Both of Matt Patricia’s parents were educators, so it’s no surprise that he seemed to subscribe to a philosophy that he attributed to new teachers in his first year as Detroit Lions head coach last season.
“A lot of teachers say you don’t smile, first-year teachers, you don’t smile until Thanksgiving,” Patricia said Tuesday at the NFL’s annual meeting at the Arizona Biltmore. “So you don’t let them see a smile.
