Detroit Lions lose CB Jeff Okudah for season, scheduled for groin surgery

Rookie cornerback Jeff Okudah will miss the rest of the season after electing to undergo groin surgery, a person familiar with the decision told the Free Press.

Okudah, the Detroit Lions' first-round pick, is scheduled for a procedure Tuesday to fix a groin strain that has nagged him since his days at Ohio State and slowly gotten worse this season.

Selected no. 3 overall, Okudah has had a rocky first season, starting six of the nine games he's played and missing the last two weeks with a shoulder injury.

While Okudah's shoulder is no longer an issue, he opted to have surgery on his groin now in order to have a full offseason to get ready for 2021, when he will be playing for a new coach and new general manager.
