ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions liked Brad Kaaya's growth this offseason. They liked it a lot. But you can't keep everybody. They chose to roll with a fifth safety and fifth running back instead, and rolled the dice they could sneak Kaaya onto the practice squad.
They lost.
Kaaya was claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers. He'll back up Cam Newton and, presumably, Derek Anderson.
