Detroit Lions' Kyle Van Noy hunting for bigger role on defense through special teams performance

ALLEN PARK -- It was just one play, but it was a reminder of what Kyle Van Noy was expected to be when the Detroit Lions moved up in the draft to select the BYU linebacker in the second round a year ago.

It was the first snap of the second quarter and the Lions were up, 7-0. The Philadelphia Eagles faced a second-and-goal from the 1-yard line and wanted to power it in with running back DeMarco Murray.

Murray took the shotgun handoff and attempted to break the plane behind the left side of his offensive line, but Van Noy fired through a gap, racing past the block of Eagles tight end Trey Burton before latching on to Murray's ankles behind the line of scrimmage and dropping the back for a one-yard loss.
