As he bounced from stop to stop in the NFL, coaching special teams in Jacksonville and Green Bay and New Orleans and Miami, and back to New Orleans and Jacksonville again before coming to Detroit, John Bonamego always felt there was a void in his coaching career.
Bonamego wanted to be a head coach somewhere before he hung up his whistle, and until it happened that was always going to be on his mind.
"I think sometimes when there’s something in the back of your mind, be it a goal or something that you really — something that you’ve wanted for a long time, not to say that it’s a distraction, but it’s always there," Bonamego said Tuesday.
