Detroit Lions linebacker Jamie Collins was ejected in the second quarter of Sunday’s season opener after he head-butted an official.
Collins, whom the Lions signed to a three-year, $30-million contract in May, was disqualified with 12:16 in the second quarter after the Chicago Bears’ Ty Montgomery ran for 1 yard to the Bears’ 29-yard line.
Video replays showed Collins slowly head-butting referee Alex Kemp in the chest with the crown of his helmet after the play. It appeared as though Collins was trying to demonstrate how he was head-butted during the play.
Kemp immediately threw a penalty flag and after a lengthy discussion with officials, Collins’ disqualification was announced, along with a 15-yard penalty.
