Jake Rudock has done enough to earn the Detroit Lions’ backup quarterback job.
Through training camp and three preseason games, the third-year player from Michigan has earned the job over longtime veteran Matt Cassel.
But even after a second straight impressive game, coach Matt Patricia isn’t ready to anoint Rudock just yet.
“We’re still in the mode where we’re evaluating everybody,” Patricia said Monday. “Everybody on the team is still getting evaluated from that standpoint and Jake and Matt (Cassel) and Matt (Stafford) are obviously out there doing everything they can to show us what they can do through the preseason.
