Despite an earlier report, the Detroit Lions have not retained a firm to assist the team in its search for a new general manager or president. That news was first reported by the Associated Press and has been independently confirmed via a league source with knowledge of the situation.
On Wednesday, the Detroit News, citing former front office executive and current NFL.com contributor Gil Brandt, reported the Lions had hired Chicago-based firm Heidrick & Struggles to assist with the team's search.
But that report appears premature.
According to the league source, the organization is still weighing all of its options as it prepares to replace general manager Martin Mayhew and president Tom Lewand.
