Second-year defensive tackle Da'Shawn Hand will miss the Detroit Lions' season opener Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals because of an elbow injury.
The Lions downgraded Hand to out late Friday night after listing him as questionable on the initial injury report.
Hand injured his left elbow during the first week of training camp and has barely practiced in the six weeks since.
He was listed as a limited participant in practice Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and on the Lions' estimated practice report Thursday this week, but he did not take part in individual drills Tuesday and Wednesday and did only brief work Friday.
