According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Detroit Lions are waiving defensive tackle P.J. Johnson.
Johnson was a seventh-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft. While expectations will never be too high for a seventh-round selection, his size and play style made him an intriguing depth piece to play behind Damon Harrison Sr. Johnson could not make a name for himself this summer, and as a seventh rounder, he was always expendable for the team.
He is a practice squad candidate, though. Detroit was obviously intrigued enough in him to spend a draft pick and could always use a player of his style if injuries begin to pile up for them of the defensive front.
