By swapping out starting cornerbacks this week, the Detroit Lions saved themselves about $3 million in cap space.
The team agreed to a two-year, $20 million contract with free agent Desmond Trufant on Wednesday, then traded three-time Pro Bowler Darius Slay to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.
While Slay's trade left the Lions with a $2.9 million dead cap hit, it also freed up about $10 million in cap room.
