Of all the things that went wrong Monday, from Matthew Stafford’s colorblind game of catch with the wrong team, to some uncharacteristic special-teams mistakes, to the Detroit Lions’ continued inability to grasp or execute Matt Patricia’s defense, the most concerning was the proverbial pillow the New York Jets held over the Lions’ collective face for an eight-minute stretch of the third quarter that snuffed out what little life they showed in the 2018 season opener.
The Jets rattled off 31 straight points in that span and diced up the Lions every way possible en route to a revealing 48-17 victory.
