The Detroit Lions stockpiled late-round picks in this year's NFL draft, and on cut day Saturday, they let two of those draft choices go.
Among the players the Lions waived were seventh-round picks tight end Isaac Nauta and defensive tackle P.J. Johnson.
Both Nauta and Johnson are candidates to rejoin the Lions' practice squad if they clear waivers Sunday, and both are outliers in general manager Bob Quinn's draft history.
Of the 25 picks in his first three drafts as Lions GM, Quinn waived just three players before Week 1 of their rookie season: Quarterbacks Jake Rudock (sixth round, 2016) and Brad Kaaya (seventh round, 2017) and defensive end Pat O'Connor (seventh round, 2017).
