The Detroit Lions have followed a distinct pattern with the contracts they’ve done this off-season, signing most of their veteran free-agent additions to short-term, low-money deals loaded with incentives.
Defensive end Wallace Gilberry was the latest recipient of such a deal.
Gilberry signed a one-year contract Monday worth $1.25 million, with a chance to earn another $500,000 in play-time and performance incentives.
He’s expected to play as a rotational defensive end this fall behind starters Ziggy Ansah and Devin Taylor.
Gilberry, who had 17.5 sacks the last four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, received a $340,000 signing bonus and will make an $885,000 base salary this fall.
