The Lions started training camp with as much depth as I can remember in my 10 seasons covering the team, but as is often the case, their surplus of NFL-ready contributors has dwindled dramatically in recent weeks.
Three defensive players who at various times looked like good candidates for roster spots, Kerry Hyder, Brandon Copeland and Jordan Hill, are out for the season on injured reserve, and two more (Armonty Bryant and Khyri Thornton) have suspensions to serve starting Saturday.
Two offensive linemen who would be locks to make the team, Taylor Decker and Corey Robinson, are on the physically unable to perform list.
