San Diego — What looked like a magical debut for rookie running back Ameer Abdullah and the new-look Lions defense took a sour turn Sunday at Qualcomm Stadium.
The Lions’ offense looked like the same inconsistent group as in 2014, and the defense wasn’t even close to picking up the slack in a 33-28 loss to the San Diego Chargers in the season opener.
Philip Rivers and the Chargers offense gashed the Lions for 483 yards and scored the final 30 points of the game after the Lions jumped out to a 21-3 lead in the first half.
