The Detroit Lions spent a good portion of last season developing their sixth-round quarterback on the practice squad. They won't have the same luxury this year.
The Carolina Panthers claimed quarterback Brad Kaaya off waivers Sunday, a day after the Lions cut the former Miami (Fla.) standout during their reduction to a 53-man roster.
Kaaya, the Lions' second of two sixth-round choices in April's draft, completed 24-for-40 passes for 291 yards this exhibition season. He threw three touchdown passes, but also had an interception and lost a fumble in the Lions' final exhibition game Thursday in Buffalo.
