Can Dave Bing's voice reconnect the Pistons to Detroit?

Thirty-seven years after the Detroit Pistons left Cobo Arena in downtown Detroit for the Oakland County suburbs, Tom Gores — now in his fifth year as team owner — is stepping up efforts to reconnect the Pistons with the city whose name the franchise carries.

On Saturday night, before kickoff of the big college football showdown between Michigan State and Oregon, the Pistons rolled out a new 60-second TV commercial narrated by Dave Bing, Detroit‘s mayor from 2009-13 and the Pistons’ best player from the Cobo days in 1966-75.

It’s the first big splash in a retooled Pistons marketing campaign to kick off the 2015-16 NBA season.
