Calvin Johnson, facing an uncertain future with Lions, hopes to stay in Detroit

ALLEN PARK -- It's difficult to age gracefully in today's NFL.

That's especially true for veterans who have escalating contracts, and declining production.

Veterans like Calvin Johnson.

His cap number soars to $24 million next year -- an exorbitant price for a player who has caught just four balls for 60 yards the past two weeks combined. He ranks 12th in the league overall with 979 receiving yards.

He's been pretty good at times -- but pretty good might not be enough to appeal to the new general manager, considering his contract ranks No. 1 among receivers.
