Caldwell, Stafford talk coaching changes

The shakeup to Jim Caldwell’s coaching staff came swift Monday afternoon with the firing of offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and offensive line coaches Jeremiah Washburn and Terry Heffernan.

“We don’t have a lot of time,” Caldwell said of making these changes after losing for the sixth time in seven games on Sunday. “We’re running out of time.”

Quarterbacks coach Jim Bob Cooter becomes the new offensive coordinator and play caller for a Lions offense that ranks 29th in points scored over a 1-6 start to the season.

“We just weren’t productive,” Caldwell said when asked why these moves were made now.
