Birkett: Observations from Lions minicamp

The Detroit Lions opened their three-day mandatory minicamp with a two-hour practice on Tuesday.

Stephen Tulloch was excused from the workout as he awaits his pending release, and the Lions welcomed four tryout players to camp.

With the caveat that players can't wear pads and no contact is allowed, here are some observations from today's workout:

• It's no surprise, but rookie first-round pick Taylor Decker continues to take all the first-team reps at left tackle. It'd be an upset if Decker wasn't the Week 1 starter at the position now, with Riley Reiff moving to right tackle.
