Birkett: Eric Ebron injury a morale deflator?

The Detroit Lions got their first major injury scare of the preseason Saturday when Eric Ebron left the team’s annual mock game at Ford Field with his head hung low while riding on the back of a cart.

Ebron had spent the previous few minutes crawling around on his hands and knees as doctors examined the back of his right leg in the ankle/Achilles area.

Anyone who has seen a football player suffer a ruptured Achilles tendon — Mikel Leshoure a few years ago comes to mind — knows that’s not usually a good sign, and some of Ebron’s teammates talked gloomily about the pall Ebron’s injury cast on the scrimmage immediately after practice.
