Ball security an issue for Detroit Lions' Michael Roberts, must 'get it corrected'

For the man with the largest recorded hands in the history of the NFL combine, Michael Roberts sure didn’t put them to good use Sunday.

Roberts led the Detroit Lions with four catches for 34 yards in the 24-10 preseason-opening win against the Indianapolis Colts, but he also dropped a pass in the second quarter and nearly lost two fumbles.

His play earned him a butt-chewing from tight ends coach Al Golden and rare public admonition from Lions coach Jim Caldwell, who hinted that ball security issues have been a problem for the rookie tight end since the Lions made him a fourth-round pick in April’s NFL draft.
