This week was supposed to be the first of many quiet weeks around the NFL. With the Detroit Lions’ offseason program over, we faced a newsless void for the next month, as we awaited the fate of sports.
But instead of a quiet week full of Name Bracketing and lists, the Lions dropped a relative bombshell by announcing that team owner Martha Firestone Ford is stepping down and handing the franchise to her daughter Sheila Ford Hamp.
While the succession order wasn’t a surprise, the timing of the decision was slightly unexpected, and it consumed our discussion for the week.
